Anxiety triggers: Global trauma

Friends, especially millennials, is your anxiety triggered by days like today - September 11? This feeling is valid. In 2001, you were still working on establishing your sense of safety and sense of self. Then, in one horrifying moment, this was ripped away from you. Your worldview had to contort to accommodate terror and active war. You deserved a youth free from this anxiety.

How can we manage this? Be intentional.

Create intentional time and space for paying your respects and mourning. There is no sense in overwhelming yourself with news articles, images, or videos. Take intentional time to mourn the global loss and the loss of your sense of safety, as I mentioned. When you are ready, transition your intention toward gratitude. Be grateful for your life, the life of survivors, and the heroic efforts of first responders. Gratitude, when practiced with intention, cannot coexist with any other feeling - it's fab like that.

Now, reclaim your day. Focus your intention on the beauty around you.

When intrusive thoughts occur, greet then, accept them, and let them go.
